The ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Johannesburg, Buti Tlhagale.
The occasion featured performances by the senior school choir and their marimba band. It was attended by several distinguished guests.

To offer cutting-edge, 21st-century education to its pupils, the school officially opened the STEAM Centre.
“The centre will focus on the presentation of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics in a holistic manner which meets the needs of both universities and current-day employers,” said Dennis Maritz, head of School.
“The centre boasts two new laboratories, a coding and robotics facility, a computer suite and a double-volume art room designed to promote the exhibition of the works and talents of our pupils,” said Denis.
“It is here where the next generation will be taught coding, robotics and lateral thinking skills.

“The centre is an investment in our pupils’ future and will position St Catherine’s as a leading independent school on the East Rand,” added Denis.
“It has taken a year of hard work and commitment to bring this project to fruition.
“It would not have been realised without the support of our Dominican Sisters and the school’s board of governors.

“We are particularly proud of the Rose Niland Bell Tower which forms an integral part of the centre that was erected to honour our founder, Mother Rose,” said Denis.
