“Fire was spreading toward the entire building and threatening nearby structures. More backup was called for from other fire stations in terms of the availability of resources,” said Ntladi.

“Backup fire stations were Boksburg Central, Wadeville, Primrose, Hlahatsi, Alberton, Vosloorus and Leon Ferreira. Eight fire engines augmented by 29 firefighters battled the blaze till about 18:00,” he said.

“Water had to be shuttled to enhance smooth fire suppression operations. Eleven rooms were engulfed and destroyed by flames, while 30 were saved from the fire, including Auto Spares Shop,” said Ntladi, adding that there were no casualties.

“The cause of the fire is undetermined and the subject of ongoing investigations.”
