Ward 35’s Councillor Ntuthuzelo Mpambani is concerned about the illegal dumping at the Dukathole entrance near the railway bridge.

He said this ongoing problem poses a health hazard to the community.

“I constantly get the dumping cleaned every time I request the service provider responsible for illegal dumping to respond and assist.
“The problem is the community stays close to that bridge. They are the ones who always dump, even if they see it is clean,” said Mpambani.
He said the service provider cleans the area daily so there is no need for illegal dumping to happen.
“There is no need for them to throw waste there. We have a service provider that cleans Dukathole every day. Why don’t they put their waste in plastic on the pavement of their street? It will be collected daily.
“I understand they might not have bins, but that is not a reason to dump,” said Mpambani.
He said dumping is not the only health challenge because there is water constantly running down the road.
It is believed the residents pour water onto the roads and that concerns him.

“I don’t understand why residents throw dirty water in the streets. We have flushing public toilets that have sinks outside that they can use to pour the water.
“When community members pour water onto the streets, it sits there and attracts flies and causes another health hazard,” said Mpambani.
He said this a problem that the community must work on.
“I plan to have a meeting with the community to address the issue and find solutions together about how we can tackle the problem,” said Mpambani.

He urged the community to keep their spaces clean.
“We all live in this area. Keeping our area clean should be a priority. We all have a role to play in keeping our community clean,” said Mpambani.
