Elsburg wrestlers collect medals at championships

Elsburg wrestlers recently participated in the National Cadet, Junior, and Senior Championships held in the Brakpan Indoor Sports Center on June 28 and 29.

The wrestlers represented the Ekurhuleni Wrestling Association.

The Ekhurheni sport’s women of the year 2022/23, Lilian Mbena, won her 10th national championship and is now preparing for the national trials in October.

Bradley Stander won his second national silver medal. Even though the wrestler only started wrestling at age 19, he has performed well, showing determination and consistency in the sport.

Another rising star making a name for herself is Eluska Britz, who walked away with a silver medal, her eighth national medal. Britz has shown talent, and by adjusting to her wrestling, she can achieve her dream at the nationals.

Head coach Derick Brewis said they are pleased with how the wrestlers performed, but there is room for improvement.

“Me and Tobie Jnr and Tobie Sr Alberts were evaluating all the wrestlers during the current competitions to adjust their training programme to improve their skills. But we are happy with how far they have come.

“The competition is tough, and as a club, we always want to build a competitive club where its wrestlers can perform in any championship,” said Brewis.

The club invites interested wrestlers to join them.
