”Runners prepare and the Comrades are not an easy race. The Comrades Marathon takes physical and mental strength, hence we award runners who participated,” said Matlou.
Germiston City News asked Matlou what motivates them as runners to push forward on the road.
“The support you receive from family, friends, colleagues and community. When you’re running you remember you also doing it for them.
“The event is well supported with club members and the community cheering you on the sidelines. It’s also an inspiration to them,” said Matlou.

He said to conquer Comrades you need to prepare.
“We follow a strict training schedule. You start training as early as now to prepare for next year’s Comrades.
You attend as many races as possible, that way you can track your progress and compete against other runners. We have groups and platforms where we share information as Comrade runners.
Maintaining your training programme is as important as watching your diet,” said Matlou.
