Bakery employee shot dead in Katlehong

Detectives probe murder of man while on way to work.

Katlehong SAPS detectives believe the murder of a bakery employee who was shot and killed while driving to work in the early hours of Friday, 1st November in Katlehong happened at around 5am.

The victim was driving a single cab Toyota Hi-Lux bakkie between Mavimbela and Ncala Sections in Katllehong on his way to work in the early hours of Friday, November 1, 2024, when unrecognised assailant fired several shots at his bakkie, causing it to lose control and collide with a palisade fence and climb up an embankment on the side of the road.

According to Katlehong SAPS’s Media spokesperson Const. Sivenkosi Mtwa, the deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds all over his body. “A total number of 55 empty cartridges from different types of heavy-duty firearms were found on the scene. Forty-four of which were from AK-47 rifles while 11, are linked to a 9mm pistol”, said Mtwa.

Mtwa, explained that all emergency medical role players were immediately summoned, including paramedics who declared the victim dead when they arrived at the scene. The body was later transported by pathologist to the government mortuary in Germiston.

The motive for the killing is unknown, neither is the identity of the killer or killers are known by the police crime investigators, nor the reason for murder of a man driving alone to work in his bakkie in the early hours of the morning.

During the shooting, the diseased lost control of his vehicle and collided with the palisade fence of one of the houses along Mavimbela Section.

The motive for the killing is unknown, neither is the identity of the killer nor his reason for murdering lone man in ruck at 5am is yet to be established by the police, and the identity of the suspects is unknown while he is still on the run.
