Drug mules busted for drugs valued over R1.2-million at OR Tambo

The SAPS also discovered and confiscated cocaine concealed inside the suspects’ luggage. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there is a link between the two.

The SAPS arrested two drug mules at the OR Tambo International Airport, bringing the number of similar arrests there to five since the year started.

A 24-year-old Brazilian man and a 51-year-old SA woman, who had travelled together on the same flight from São Paulo, Brazil, were intercepted by police upon their arrival on March 20.

Their arrest resulted in the seizure of cocaine valued at over R1m.

A medical examination confirmed that both suspects had ingested “bullets”, suspected to contain cocaine.

The SAPS also discovered and confiscated cocaine concealed inside the suspects’ luggage. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there is a link between the two.

On March 21, the SAPS intercepted a shipment of white powder, suspected to be heroin, valued at over R200 000.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the shipment was destined for London, UK.
