Reckless driving in Elsburg leads to arrest of banned foreign national
The suspect faces charges of reckless driving and immigration violations and will appear in Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
A 48-year-old taxi driver is behind bars after EMPD Community Liaison Unit (CLU) officers caught him driving recklessly in Elsburg.
According to the EMPD, officers patrolling on Osborn Road spotted a white Toyota Hiace minibus taxi driving into oncoming traffic and ignoring a red traffic light, putting other motorists in danger.
They immediately pursued the vehicle and cornered it at a T-junction.

When asked to produce his driving licence, the man could not provide one.

Due to suspicions that the driver might be in the country illegally, officers took him to the Department of Home Affairs for verification.
Checks revealed he is on SA’s ban list and is prohibited from entering the country.
The man was arrested and detained at the Elsburg Police Station. He faces charges of reckless and negligent driving and being an illegal immigrant.
He will soon appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
