EMPD apprehends two cable thieves in Primrose
The EMPD arrested two men in Primrose following repeated cable thefts that disrupted the power supply.
The EMPD has confirmed that two men were arrested in Primrose late on August 26, after being caught stealing an electrical cable.
Officers from the Anti-Cable Theft Southern Region Unit observed the suspects on Main Reef Road at about 23:00.
The men were found digging with a shovel and a pickaxe and had roughly 1.2m of cable in their possession.
The men were detained and taken to Primrose Police Station.

They face charges of tampering with essential infrastructure and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

The EMPD said the arrests follow weeks of cable theft incidents in the area, which have caused frequent blackouts affecting both residential and commercial properties.
Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activity related to cable theft to help protect vital infrastructure and prevent further service disruptions.
