EMPD targets reckless driving in Germiston, arrests six for speeding

The operation was conducted on Rand Airport Road, with a designated speed limit of 70km/h.

The EMPD High Speed Unit officers conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of six motorists, in Germiston.

As part of Transport Month, the operation focused on enforcing compliance with speed limits as speed is one of the major contributing factors of road fatalities in the City of Ekurhuleni.

The operation was conducted on Rand Airport Road, with a designated speed limit of 70km/h.

This bike was confiscated during the operation.

During the operation, six motorists were stopped after they were clocked traveling different speeds, with the highest being 164 km/h.

“All six motorists were arrested for being in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 and detained at Germiston Police Station, facing charges of exceeding the speed limit,” said city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

EMPD advises that motorists should adhere to the speed limit, and failure to comply will result in them being held accountable for their actions and they will face the full might of the law.
