Two arrested as EMPD seizes cannabis worth R30k in Primrose
A joint operation by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and SAPS Crime Intelligence led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of cannabis and related items in Primrose.
Two men were arrested, and cannabis valued at about R30 000 was seized during a joint law enforcement operation in Primrose.
According to a statement released by the EMPD, officers from its Intervention, Community Liaison and K9 Unit, working with members of the police’s Crime Intelligence Unit, conducted the operation on Wednesday, January 21.

The arrests followed intelligence received about individuals allegedly dealing in cannabis. Officers proceeded to Polly Street, where two men, aged 49 and 55, were located and searched.

A subsequent search of the residence led to the discovery of several large containers of cannabis hidden in different bedrooms.
Police also recovered three portable scales, 35 drug paraphernalia pipes, three cellular phones, three speed point machines, rolling papers, and cannabis-infused lollipops, chocolates and mushrooms.
The suspects were asked to provide valid cultivation and manufacturing documentation, including a South African Health Products Regulatory Authority Section 22C licence, which authorises the possession of large quantities of cannabis and the manufacture and sale of cannabis-infused products. They were unable to produce the required documentation.
Both were arrested and detained at Primrose Police Station. They face charges of possession of and dealing in illicit substances and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
The EMPD reiterated its commitment to working with other law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crime and ensure community safety across Ekurhuleni.
