A 60-year-old man has been arrested in Elsburg after officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) recovered a reported stolen Toyota Land Cruiser during a joint operation with a private security company.

According to EMPD, officers received lookout information from private security personnel regarding a white Toyota Land Cruiser believed to be stolen and seen travelling in the Elsburg area. EMPD Intervention Unit officers responded swiftly and managed to locate the vehicle with a single male occupant.

The vehicle was tactically stopped at the corner of Conner Barfoot and Parnell Road, where officers conducted a thorough inspection. EMPD confirmed that the vehicle was fitted with false registration number plates.

Further examination revealed that the vehicle identification number (VIN) displayed on the windscreen had been tampered with.

The suspect was unable to provide legitimate documentation for the vehicle and instead produced fraudulent registration papers.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. He was detained at the Elsburg Police Station and is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

EMPD has reiterated its commitment to crime prevention and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to authorities to assist in the fight against vehicle-related crimes.
