Police seize counterfeit goods worth nearly R300k in Gauteng raids
Gauteng police confiscated counterfeit and illicit goods during targeted operations in Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni to disrupt illegal trade.
The SAPS Gauteng Provincial Counterfeit Unit, in partnership with brand protection experts, has intensified its crackdown on the distribution and sale of counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods across the province.
During two targeted operations this week, officers inspected 23 shops in the Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni districts and seized counterfeit goods valued at an estimated R296 181.
On July 1, a joint task team inspected 15 shops in De Deur and Evaton in the Sedibeng District, confiscating counterfeit clothing, accessories and consumable products.

The following day, officials inspected eight shops in Brakpan, where they seized counterfeit accessories and counterfeit consumable products.
Police said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to disrupt illicit supply chains and curb the trade in counterfeit goods across Gauteng.
SAPS said it remains committed to working with industry stakeholders and brand protection experts to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit products.
