Germiston City News previously reported it is believed that the firearm used in the shooting belonged to the parent of the boy accused of the shooting.

Mabona said before the shooting, the principal saw learners sitting in the foyer. He instructed them to take out their workbooks to study.

“The Grade Six boy allegedly mumbled something in response, but the principal ignored him. He saw the learner later near the staff room, which is when he was shot,” said Mabona.
