Suspect caught with unlicensed firearm and hijacked truck by EMPD
The arrest followed a report by the truck’s owner, who alerted EMPD officers after his white Hino truck had been hijacked moments earlier.
The EMPD High-Speed Unit apprehended a 21-year-old in Delmore Gardens on December 4 for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and a hijacked truck.

Using a tracking system, the owner detected battery tampering on the vehicle but was unable to contact the driver.

“Officers accompanied the owner to the location provided by the tracker at the corner of Smith and Kearsney avenues.
“On arrival, the owner identified the truck, which was being tampered with by three men, one of whom was inside the vehicle,” said city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
The criminals tried to flee but one was apprehended. During the arrest, a black 9mm firearm with an intact serial number and one live round of ammunition was found in the criminal’s possession.
The 21-year-old will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The EMPD has urged residents to remain vigilant against motor theft and hijackings during the festive season.
