The hospital CEO Lebohang Khumalo delivered her keynote address, welcoming the staff, guests and the rest of the audience.
“It is a great honour to stand before you today as we gather to celebrate an occasion that speaks directly to the spirit of Bertha Gxowa Hospital – an institution rooted in resilience, dedication, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence,” said Khumalo.
She highlighted that this year’s theme, ‘Blossom: cultivating excellence and celebrating growth’, captures so beautifully what they are called to do each day.“
“A blossom is the result of nurturing – of preparing the ground, tending to the roots, and having the patience to wait for beauty and strength to emerge,” she said.
“Each of you – nurses, doctors, allied health workers, administrative staff, cleaners, porters, and managers – play a role in this blossoming. Your commitment, often unseen and unthanked, is the reason why patients heal, why hope is restored, and why our hospital continues to grow in both stature and service,” said Khumalo.
Khumalo said the event aims to honour those who have gone above and beyond their work.
“Let us also remember that excellence does not exist in isolation. It is cultivated through collaboration, mentorship, accountability, and a shared vision for what healthcare can and should be.

Our winners today remind us that greatness begins with small, consistent acts done with pride and purpose.
“But blossoming is not only about recognition – it’s also about growth. As we move forward, may we recommit ourselves to creating a workplace culture that nurtures growth in others, especially the next generation of healthcare professionals.

“Let us continue to invest in our systems, in each other, and in the kind of service that leaves no patient behind.
“To those being recognised today, we are proud of you. You remind us of what’s possible when passion meets purpose.
To everyone gathered, thank you for your contribution to our collective journey. Together, we will continue to blossom, and through our service, so will our community,” said Khumalo.
She also congratulated all the nominees and award recipients as she closed her address.
