Four suspected zama zamas arrested on N12

Gauteng Traffic Police led to the arrest of four suspected undocumented illegal miners (zama zamas) on the N12 near Alberton.

A stop-and-search operation on June 17 led to the arrest of four suspected zama zamas on the N12 near Alberton.

CPS Security, in collaboration with EMPD CLU and Gauteng Traffic Police, intercepted a suspicious vehicle that was first spotted on the N17 highway.

Officers discovered illegal mining equipment and four undocumented foreign nationals suspected of being zama zamas.

The suspects were using an e-hailing service as transport and were allegedly on their way to carry out illegal mining activities.

All individuals were arrested and detained at Alberton SAPS.

The Alberton Community Policing Unit was lauded for its support during the operation.
