EMPD cracks down on illegal structures

Officers target illegal land use in Thembisa and Kempton Park as the EMPD tears down 17 unoccupied structures in a three-day crackdown.

Officers from the EMPD’s First Responder and Land Invasion units demolished 17 unoccupied illegal structures in Thembisa and Kempton Park between May 29 and May 31.

EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato said the demolitions formed part of a by-law enforcement operation targeting illegal land use.

“Officers visited four locations in Kempton Park. On Dann Road, they removed one illegal structure. At the Kempton Park Civic Centre parking area, 10 were taken down,” said Makgato.

He added that five more structures were removed from the squash court by the Kempton Park precinct, and two were demolished on the corner of Monument and Anemoon streets.

The CoE has urged residents not to occupy land without legal permission and warned that it remove illegal structures in line with municipal by-laws.
