Major Joburg road closures for Ride Joburg this weekend
The JMPD has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Ride Joburg cycle race taking place this Sunday, with several major routes set to be closed or affected between 04:00 and 17:00.
Motorists travelling in and around Johannesburg are advised to prepare for significant road closures and traffic disruptions on October 26, as the city hosts Ride Joburg.
According to the JMPD, the event will feature a 97km main race and a 35km short route, both starting early and concluding by late afternoon.
The closures are necessary to ensure the safety of cyclists, residents, and event staff.
Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD, said officers will be deployed along the route to manage traffic flow and public safety throughout the day.

“Motorists are urged to plan their journeys and use alternative routes where possible. We appeal to all road users to exercise caution and patience,” said Fihla.
The cycle race will pass through several Johannesburg suburbs, including: Diepkloof; Orlando West; Noordgesig; Riverlea; Crown Mines; Selby; Braamfontein; Parktown; Houghton; Athol Oaklands; Kyalami; Lonehill; Kyalami Estates; Sunninghill; Woodmead; Westcliff; Parkwood; Parktown North; Craighall Park; Blairgowrie; Randburg; Douglasdale; Fourways; Ormonde and Nasrec.
Key roads expected to experience full or partial closures include: Nasrec; Rand Show; the Soweto Highway; Booysens Reserve; the N17; Main Reef; the M2 east; the M1 north and south; Woodmead Drive (R55); Witkoppen; Main; Leslie and Kingfisher Drive.
Nasrec Road will be closed from midnight on October 25, between Rand Show Road and Booysens Reserve Road, with full closures from 04:00 to 16:00 on Sunday.

Motorists are encouraged to make use of alternative roads, such as Beyers Naudé Drive, Empire Road, Rivonia Road, Oxford Road, Louis Botha Avenue, Old Pretoria Main Road, and Rifle Range Road.
