EMPD arrests six in Primrose drug and firearm bust

EMPD officers seized Mandrax tablets, gunpowder and an unlicensed gun during a Primrose operation.

The EMPD arrested six men for possession of suspected narcotics, gunpowder and an unlicensed firearm during a co-ordinated operation in Primrose on October 21.

According to EMPD spokespersons, officers from the Bronberg Special Operations Unit, working with other law enforcement stakeholders, acted on intelligence about possible drug dealing in the area.

Officers proceeded to the identified location where they found five men. A search of the suspects led to the discovery of 134 full and three half Mandrax tablets believed to be intended for sale.

During the search, one of the men was also found in possession of gunpowder. When questioned, he claimed it did not belong to him and offered to lead officers to the alleged owner.

The team then proceeded to an address on Marlands Street where they found another suspect. Upon searching him, officers recovered an unlicensed pistol.

All six were arrested – five for possession of suspected narcotics, one of whom faces an additional charge under the Explosives Act, and another for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects were detained at the Primrose Police Station and are expected to appear in court soon.

The EMPD said the arrests demonstrate its continued commitment to removing illegal firearms and drugs from Ekurhuleni’s streets.

“The EMPD remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of residents by targeting individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illegal substances and firearms,” the department said.
