Man’s body found after shack fire in Mandela informal settlement
Firefighters discovered the charred remains of an unknown man after extinguishing a shack blaze in Mandela informal settlement.
The charred body of an adult male was discovered after a shack was engulfed by fire in Mandela informal settlement, on October 26.
The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson, Tikkie MacDonald, said the firefighters from Thokoza Fire Station responded to a distress call at around 03:23 about a one-room shack that caught fire in Mandela informal settlement.
“Upon arrival, they found a one-room shack ablaze, but they quickly managed to extinguish the fire.

“However, a charred body of an unknown adult male person was discovered under the shack debris and was declared dead by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services personnel who were called to the scene. Thereafter the deceased’s body was handed over to Forensic Pathology Services personnel,” said MacDonald.
He added the cause of the fire is unknown.
“The scene was handed over to Katlehong North police and they are ongoing investigations,” MacDonald shared.
