Hundreds of Primrose residents receive rice from Tzu Chi Foundation

Tzu Chi volunteers and community leaders helped distribute rice to hundreds of Primrose residents as part of the foundation’s festive season outreach.

The Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation gave two 5kg bags of rice to approximately 700 Primrose informal settlements residents at the Primrose Fore Station.

The handover targeted child-headed families, the elderly and disabled residents as part of the foundation’s December distribution programme.

For first-time volunteer Shayona Naidoo and her husband, Deolan Naidoo, the day was particularly memorable.

Shayona said seeing the recipients’ gratitude was moving, “The highlight was seeing the looks on the recipients’ faces when they received their food. It’s the little ‘thank yous’ and smiles that fulfil the soul.”

She added that organisations like Tzu Chi do significant work for the community and encouraged others to volunteer, “Extra hands are always needed. This is my call to the community to join in and make a difference.”
