New makers movement takes off in Greenstone

Creatives unite through skills sharing, innovation and collaboration.

If you prefer spending time in the workshop, tinkering with various materials and creating hand-crafted items, the newly launched Makers Movement of South Africa (MMoSA) is the association you have been looking for.

MMoSA was recently launched at Leroy Merlin Greenstone, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the local makers’ community.

“The launch was met with great enthusiasm, setting the tone for what promises to be a dynamic and inclusive movement for artisanal makers and shakers,” said chairperson Zieg Erasmus.

“We have already attracted strong interest from a wide range of industry role players and hobbyists alike, including knife and furniture makers, epoxy resin artists, woodworking groups and 3D printing groups from across the country, as well as leading industry suppliers.”

According to Erasmus, the movement aims to bring together anyone with a passion for creating projects, whether they are seasoned professional or a curious beginner.

“Members can look forward to benefitting from shared knowledge, hands-on experiences, as well as access to the latest information, technologies, and trends in the makers’ world,” he said.

“MMoSA is committed to building a collaborative community where skills are shared, and creativity thrives.”

In an effort to grow its reach and drawing members, both young and old, new members can look forward to joining the movement for free until December 2026. A nominal membership fee will then be levied.Monthly meetings take place on the third Saturday of every month, at Leroy Merlin, Greenstone, from 09:30.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to get involved and be among the first to know what’s happening in the ever-growing makers’ movement.
