Fire destroys shacks in Makause informal settlement

Fifteen shacks in Makause informal settlement were engulfed by fire on April 20 with no fatalities reported.
The City of Ekurhuleni DEMS received an alarm of shacks on fire in the informal settlement.
Firefighters from Primrose, Bedfordview, Edenvale, Germiston, and Rynfield were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found approximately 15 shacks well alight. The fire was swiftly contained and extinguished, preventing further spread. The city’s Fire Safety Division has been called in to determine the cause of the fire,” said DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi.
“No casualties or fatalities were reported. Residents are urged to be cautious with open flames and illegal electricity connections, especially as we move into winter,” said Ntladi.
