Youth Day Talent Show shines spotlight on young talent in Driehoek

Youth talent show celebrates talent and inspires hope in Germiston

Fokotsa, featuring Boom Squad, hosted the June 16 Youth Talent Show at the corner of Junction and Driehoek Roads to commemorate Youth Day.

The event was led by Happy Maseko, alongside community leaders, and was supported by the Germiston CPF.

Members of the Driehoek community came together to celebrate the potential, talent, and resilience of young people.

The gathering was more than a celebration; it was a collective commitment to building a brighter future for the youth.

The event provided a platform for young people to showcase their talents, express their aspirations, and engage positively within their community.

According to Maseko, the mission was to empower and uplift young people by creating opportunities that inspire growth, purpose, and achievement.

“Through initiatives such as these, we aim to help steer youth away from the challenges of drug abuse, peer pressure, crime, and other negative influences,” said Maseko.

“By keeping young people active, motivated, and engaged, we are investing in a safer and more prosperous future for our communities and our nation.”

Maseko said this was the third consecutive year that he had organised the talent show.

“Every year, I push to host a talent show, and this is now the third year in a row. I was surprised by the amount of talent in our community. If this talent is not recognised and supported, many young people may fall victim to social ills.

“We had to seek donations to make this event possible. We thank the businesses and community members who stood by us and supported the initiative. Benny Masemola played a significant role by assisting with the stage and sound equipment.

“I am also a local artist, and I help young people record music. The show featured a variety of talent, including music, poetry, and dance performances.”

Participants came from various communities, including Rasta and Marathon informal settlements, Malvern, and Germiston Ext 9.
The competition winners were:
• First place: Ekurhuleni Young Ambitious
• Second place: Germiston Titanic Gwijo Polars
• Third place: Siyakhula City

The event also featured performances by Alsty Brown, Amafinis, Fokotsa, Trocks, Boom Squad, PAC 101, Siyakhula City, Amaxaba Entertainment, Ovezokuhle, DJ Skamza, and Skay.

This successful initiative would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors and community partners, including Germiston Plus, Primrose OBC, Roxana Fruit Market, local Driehoek spaza shops, Benny Masemola, and Two Mountains Funeral Services and Policies.

“We also acknowledge the invaluable support provided by the Germiston SAPS and the leadership of Germiston CPF Chairperson, Ally Matjila. Special recognition goes to our dedicated hosts and organisers who worked tirelessly to make this event a success,” said Maseko.

Matjila announced that preparations are already underway for the next community event, scheduled for September 24 in celebration of Heritage Day.

“To continue making a positive impact in the lives of young people, we are actively seeking partnerships, sponsorships, and donations.

“Contributions such as sanitary products, cosmetics, educational resources, and competition trophies will help us continue grooming, supporting, and empowering the next generation,” said Matjila.

“If you would like to partner with us, sponsor an event, or make a donation, please contact Ally Matjila on 079 283 5634 or Happy Maseko on 064 022 1326.

“Together, we can build a future where our youth are defined not by their circumstances, but by their potential, dreams, and achievements.

“This initiative is a call to action for all of us to invest in our youth and create opportunities that inspire hope and success,” said Matjila.
