Themba Mbuthuma: “Politicians put themselves first ahead of the country. They’re always thinking of their pockets and not how things affect us. I’m glad they changed our finance minister.”
Residents share their views on the one per cent VAT increase scheduled to come into effect on April 1.
Doreen Liebenberg: “Having to live as a pensioner in these financial times is hard. This increase will hit us hard, but I understand that we need to get our economy right.”
Frans Wolfaardt: “They should not put up VAT. We pensioners are already suffering to make ends meet. They need to look at decreasing VAT and not increasing it.”
Eddie Siemers: “It’s just one per cent and we can’t make any lifestyle changes that will stick, there is really nothing we can do except to accept the changes.”
Kgoshi Peter Mampuru: “The government should have decreased VAT by one or even two per cent. I am not happy about this increase, everything is going up and nothing is going down.”
Goodman Phoswa: “I had planned on buying a bus, but I’m holding off any big purchases because this increase may jeopardise a big part of my financial plans.”
