Carry SA flag correctly

Eight-year-old girl spots a blunder and is rewarded.

S’thembiso Mavundla, Vosloorus writes:

I am writing to you about the Kathorus Mail issue dated June 13, 2018.

On the front page, you published two photos of learners celebrating Africa Day, one of the photos showed two little ones holding the SA flag upside down.

This to me showed disrespect for the national flag.

What made matters worse was the photo appeared on the front page of our respected “favourite lokshin paper”.

I blame the school governing body (SGB) at Tshabalala Primary School for allowing their learners to carry the national flag upside down.

I would like the SGB to take a full-page advertisement in the newspaper and apologise for disrespecting the national flag.

I would also like them to educate other learners on how to carry the national flag correctly.

I have been waiting for both the editor of our local newspaper and the SGB to apologise for this blunder. Most of all, I expect all of you to at least apologise to my eight-year-old daughter who spotted this.

Editor’s note:

I thank you for your letter. Please compliment your eight-year-old on her commendable observation. Kindly bring her to our Vosloorus office to collect a R100 reward for her sharp eye.
