Residents reveal their mayoral plans should they ever find themselves ruling the metro.
Oupa Mkulisai: “If I was the mayor of the metro, I would work tirelessly to reduce the usage of nyaope and help rehabilitate addicts. We need rehabilitation centres.”
Sheldon de Villiers: “I would enforce a strict ‘no load-shedding’ law for my town. I’m tired of going to people’s homes to charge my phone whenever the power goes out.”
Lindiwe Kakhobwe: “I would open local supermarkets closer to residential areas where people have no access to transport and challenge existing stores with quality products and pricing.”
Hannah Hans: “I would increase police visibility in the metro to try to decrease crime. It is not safe for locals, especially women, to walk alone any time of the day.”
Lucas Ramalobela: “My first assignment would be deporting people who are in the country illegally. We need stricter laws on who we allow into the country and for how long.”
Lithemba Ntshanga: “I would encourage youth participation in municipal employment structures. Another focus area would be ending nepotism and the bribing of officials to secure jobs and tenders.”
