Lets us subscribe to Madiba’s ideals

My family could not afford to get me and my siblings to the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg because it was cold and my father does not own a car.

I would have loved to go to the stadium and celebrate what was to have been the late Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday this year.

Although I only saw him on newspaper photographs and on television, my greatest wish was always to meet this great man face to face and listen to his many amazing stories about his experiences.

My only wish, though, is that as South Africans of all races and creed, we should all subscribe to Mandela’s dream of a united nation. Mandela, our first black president will always be remembered for his reconciliatory tone despite all the trials and tribulations that saw our country avoid what could have been a disastrous civil war because of his leadership.

I hope we will all unite and pray together that our country will survive everything that has been thrown at us as the nation right now. May we all live long enough to 100 and let our own grand-children celebrate many more 100 years to come.
