Trash bin collectors in Lambton, good or bad?

Resident feels people collecting recyclables are causing a mess.

Dietmar Weise, Lambton writes:

Recycling is a must in our country and because there is no system as in other countries, jobless people living on the streets and in townships took their own initiative to collect rubbish for an income.

It was good to see people streaming into the suburbs with their trolleys to collect rubbish, before the rubbish removal crews come.

But lately this is most frustrating.

Trash collectors have no respect for other people’s property.

They empty the wheelie bins on the street, tear open the plastic bags in the bins and throw everything back in and sometimes take the empty plastic bags with them.

Every week I have to wash my bin, because all the rubbish that was neatly put in bags, is messed up inside the wheelie bin before the rubbish removal truck arrives.

I get extremely annoyed with these people, trashing our streets. They should be removed from our area.

Petty crimes are also on the increase on rubbish removal days, like brass numbers and post box covers that get stolen etc, due to lots of human traffic in the streets.

In certain areas in the Western Cape, wheelie bins are fitted with a special lock that only the municipality can open.

These locks should be installed on our wheelie bins.
