Letter 2 the editor

I plead with women to always make sure that someone in their family, or a friend, know where they are at all times, especially when they will not be returning home. All women should accept that the days of “ladies-first” are long gone.

I know I may sound like I am paranoid to some readers, but I think it is the duty of each one of us to alert and make others aware of the real danger of human trafficking in our communities.

All I wish for is that as people we need to understand that the dangers of human trafficking are real and a danger to each one of us. Young women and children need to be extremely careful out there, especially when they are on their own in public spaces.

Gender-based violence issue tackled in Katlehong North

There is a new generation of ruthless people of all sexes lurking out there who will rip your guts out and feel nothing about it as they watch you writhing on the ground, clutching your now hollow stomach and then drag you screaming into a strange car to slice you up even more.

Many of you have read about these things on social media and on other media platforms, but like all of us, we always think they cannot happen to us.

How wrong can we be?

Human beings are living in a different epoch, where the abduction and brutalisation of men, women and girl children is at its highest form. Parents are warned to be cautious and vigilant over their children, especially during the festive season.

In these tough times where women can do just about anything any man can do, given the skills and the tools – gender roles are no longer defined by the texture of our muscles.
