Ward councillor wishes the community a happy and safe festive season

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan sends festive season greetings to the residents of her ward.

Wendy Morgan, Ward 36 councillor writes:

I wish all residents of Ward 36 a wonderful festive season and may 2020 be a peaceful year.

This year really has been a year filled with service delivery issues, from power failures to water outages (three times within two months) and even refuse collection problems.

During the year, numerous roads were resurfaced throughout the ward, with special mention of Nasmith Avenue and Jupiter and Lower Main Reef roads.

This was a great relief as I had been fighting to have the condition of these roads addressed since 2016.

Pretoria Road was resurfaced, and though the new road surface is welcomed, the stormwater drains in the area were not repaired which has led to continued flooding.

So the fight to address this issue will continue in the new year.

The pavements in Main Road in Fishers’ Hill and Solheim were recently repaired, after many promises, and residents writing to the President’s office, why did it have to go that far?

The community is reminded that the metro’s offices will be closed from December 24 to January 2.

Emergency and essential services are not affected by the closure, and residents can report any municipal issues to the metro’s call-taking centre by calling 0860 543 000 or sending an email to Call.Centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za, alternatively issues can be reported using the My Ekurhuleni App.

I encourage residents to make sure their metro accounts are paid seven days before the due date if paying via a third party (this includes the Siyakhoka platform) to avoid disconnection.

I will be on leave from December 22 to January 2, Clr Kade Guerrioro will be looking after the ward while I am away.

Residents can contact him on 071 8998 646.

Please travel safely and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
