Local golfer in line for SA selection

Local golfer vying for a place in Team South Africa.

There’s no giving up for Clinton Kinnear, an amateur golfer from Germiston, who has entered World Golfers’ Championship twice and is once again through to the national final, to compete for a place in Team South Africa.

He recently finished third in his flighting, with a net score of 68 at the Gauteng elimination, which was played at Randpark Golf Club.

Kinnear, who is a real estate agent and avid golfer, has been playing for seven years.

“It’s a very tough competition, because you play against good players, but the experience I have gained is wonderful,” he said.

“It has shown me the quality of golfers we have in South Africa; if other golfers can handle the pressure they should definitely enter.”

Clinton won an all-expenses paid, two-day trip to the national final, which will be played in KwaZulu-Natal from September 9 to 11.

To qualify, he will need to finish in the top two of his flighting, as the competition gets a little more competitive.

“The course will remain a secret to ensure that everyone has a fair and equal opportunity to qualify,” said Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for World Golf Events South Africa, the SA event owners and organisers.

”The stakes are high, with 75 regional winners this year vying for a coveted opportunity to play in the world final and compete against amateur golfers from all over the world in October.

“We wish Clinton the best of luck as he prepares to take to the fairways and greens once more, and puts his skills to the test to earn the Team SA blazer.”
