For weeks and days on end people in our street are apparently unable to get out of their cars and open their own gates.
At six o’clock in the morning, every day, one of our neighbours in Jersey Street, Dinwiddie, pulls up at their own gate and starts hooting impatiently for someone to come outside and manually open a sliding gate.
My problem has nothing to do with the fact that they are too darn lazy to open their own gate, it’s the hooting.
This person drives a new silver BMW and claims they have no cellphone to call the person inside the house to come and open for them.
This isn’t the only person we are having an issue with, two houses up the street is a home crèche.
The people who bring their kids to be looked after here are also too darn lazy to get out of their vehicles to go and fetch their children from inside the property.
They stop outside and hoot like their lives depend on it, and wait for someone to bring their child or children out to them.
There is also a man who rents a room on this property and his music equipment and sub-woofers in the car sound like they are more expensive than the old, rundown car itself.
He tunes his sound every weekend, and makes my whole house vibrate — never mind the fact that my brain feels like it has its own bass.
This is absolute rubbish and enough is enough.
Some people work nights and rest during the day.
That isn’t the point though.
These people complain about my dogs, but we wouldn’t have constant barking if they would stop hooting.
Have some compassion people.
I must add that there are laws when it comes to using the hooter of your vehicle, and laws around disturbing the peace in suburban areas.
If you have the need to hoot or listen to ridiculously loud music or test how loud you want your music in your car, go find an open field in the middle of the bush where you won’t disturb others trying to live a normal, quiet life.
My husband and I are young parents, we are not stuck up at all.
Selfish interruptions and arrogant hooting is annoying at any time, but these people do it all the time.
I am begging them to stop; hooters are used for emergencies and music should only be heard by the occupant of the vehicle.
You know who you are — please stop.
