Tough Interprovincial SA Sprint competition

African Championships coming up

The Interprovincial SA Sprint competition took place at Roodeplaat Dam during the first weekend of September in warm summer conditions.

The young paddlers participated in a variety of canoe sprint races in the various Olympic-recognised distances of 200m, 500m and 1 000m, as well as the K4, K2 and K1 disciplines.

The spotlight will be on these young paddlers as they progress towards the international arena.

Among others, Spoon Mkhuzangwe and Colin Ledwaba both u-18 and pupils at Germiston High School, and Katiso Hlahatsi (u-23) were under pressure with selections for the African Canoe Championships taking place.

Mkhuzangwe, Ledwaba and Hlahatsi are all from the Victoria Lake Canoe Club.

The African Canoe Championships will be held in Tunisia in November.

Announcements for the final African Championships team will be made by the end of September.
