The Elsburg Jomo Cosmos Football Club have started with their pre-season training and are looking forward to a great season this year.
“At Elsburg Jomo Cosmos we believe that a properly structured pre-season training programme makes all the difference to grassroots players and teams, hence our head coach Ezekiel Dube and head referee Joe Alves have put together a pre-season programme for our players,” said the club manager, Moonira Ramathula.
The pre-season training includes a coaches’ workshop, where succession planning of players and understanding the rules of the game are among the disciplines taught.
One of the club’s main goals for the year is ensuring all coaches obtain a South African Football Association (SAFA) qualification.
“Currently, we have six coaches who have between SAFA introductory to SAFA Level 2, CAF B licences and SAFA Level 4 referee qualifications,” said Ramathula.
“Our aim is to ensure all our coaches are qualified coaches and qualified referees,” said Ramathula.
“We have also established a good relationship with Platinum Stars Academy, which allows our players the opportunity to play against their academy players annually.
“This year we will be making our way to Royal Bafokeng to learn and showcase our player’s skills.”
In other news, the club will host coaching clinics at two local schools as part of the community outreach programme which they started in 2013.
Their league begins on April 5 and runs through to September/October.
“We will end our season with our fourth annual Elsburg Jomo Cosmos tournament, which has become quite a hit on the East Rand, and we continuously strive to improve our tournament offering,” said Ramthula.
