A thrilled Wemmer Pan Rowing Club took home the Masters Club Trophy from the 107th annual VLC Regatta, at the conclusion of a closely fought two-day competition, recently.
The regatta was held at Germiston Lake.
A solid performance by all 17 Wemmer senior and masters crews sealed victory for the club.
The masters women’s second division quad won their event, while the masters mixed second division double came second, as did the masters women’s second division coxed octuple, and the masters men’s first division coxed eight.
Third places were gained by the masters first division double, the masters first division men’s coxless quad and the masters first division coxed eight.
“Well done to all the crews for collecting so many medals and, ultimately, the Masters Club Trophy,” said the captain of the Wemmer Pan Club, Elra de Jager.
The club’s current performance bears witness to the success of their “Learn to Row” programme.
Most of the rowers in the medaling crews have been rowing for two years at most and are products of the programme.
This active club also has a junior development section that offers coaching to school learners and students.
The club will be running their annual winter rowing clinic during the July school holidays.
This is an excellent opportunity for the young and old to take to the water and see what rowing is all about.
