Callies’ comrades Marathon results

Callies' athletes performed well at the Comrades Marathon.

Germiston Callies’ athletes took part in the Comrades Marathon, earlier this month.

The Comrades is the world’s oldest and largest ultra-marathon, run over a distance of approximately 90km, between Pietermaritzburg and the coastal city of Durban.

Callies had 67 official starters and 54 of these managed to finish the race.

Ten of the runners were women, which has been a constant record for Callies.

Zwelithini Vaphi, the club’s first finisher, was placed 46th overall and seventh in his age category.

David Ntjepela got his green number and Fred Macdougal finished his 25th consecutive Comrades, which qualifies him for free entry into future Comrades races.

Alan Rob completed his 41st consecutive Comrades Marathon, in under nine hours, to collect a Bill Rowan medal.

The club is proud of all the athletes who took part in the marathon.

Callies’ top three male finishers: Zwelithini Vaphi (06:15:39 – silver), Thulane Magagula (06:44:02 – silver) and Headman Magadeni (07:08:07 – silver).

Top three female finishers: Siziwe Ntshebe (10:04:13 – bronze), Kenosi Maruapula (10:42:14 – bronze) and Susan Basson (10:49:22 – bronze).

Germiston Callies athletes did not represent only their club, but Germiston at large.
