Sport brings police and community together
SAPS come out victorious in hard fought match.
The Germiston Police Station recently hosted its annual “Sport against Crime” campaign.
The day involved the youth of the city and took place at the sports grounds in Dukathole.
The fun event was filled with activities such as football games for the boys and netball games for the younger girls of Dukathole.
The main football match took place between the Germiston SAPS team and the young boys and men of the area.
It was a fiercely fought contest, which ended in a 1-1 draw, forcing the sides to go to a penalty shootout to decide the winner of the match.
The Germiston SAPS goalkeeper was on fire and kept the strikes of the young guns out of the back of the net.
By his solo effort he secured the win and the gold medal for the police officers.The Germiston SAPS strikers managed to notch up four goals, while the Dukathole team managed one.
The match ended in a 5-2 win for the police.
“The management of the Germiston Police Station thanks all the role players who were involved in making the day a huge success and in partnering with us to show the youth that, together, we can make our communities and environment a better and safer place to stay in,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.
