Germiston City FC top the log

Top of the league clash.

Germiston City FC’s u-17 team played against Old Bens FC, at the Delville Sports Club, on Sunday.

With both teams at the top of the log in the Super League One, spectators witnessed first-class football.

Both teams warmed up into the game with ease and quite quickly and showed exactly what they were there to do — to win.

Both teams are skilled and in the first half, already, one could see why they are at the top of their league log.

City were more focused on attack and Old Bens put out more defence, with the players showing great football skill in their play.

Fair play held out right to the end of the first half, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

In the second half things got even more interesting and both teams played more aggressively, as Old Bens wanted to remain at number one and the City boys wanted to take down their rivals and grab top position.

It wasn’t long before Old Bens started playing a faster paced game, which frustrated City and had them playing their rivals style.

At this stage Old Bens had City where they wanted them and punished them with a goal from a corner kick.

The Bens victory was short-lived, however, as the local boys retaliated with an equalising goal of the same nature, from a corner kick.

Seemingly, City studied the Bens strategy of forcing them to play their kind of game and reverted back to their long-shots and passes.

Just before the end of the fixture, the local boys netted another goal and made sure the game ended with a 2-1 scoreboard.

This means Germiston are now at the top of the league and that Old Bens have moved down to the second position.
