The 10th edition of the National Inter-Metro Police Games 2014, hosted by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), commenced on September 21.
The opening ceremony took place at Charl Baard Stadium, in Brakpan, and culminated in the evening awards ceremony, which took place at the Esselen Park Hall, Kempton Park, on September 25.
The EMPD hosted the Durban Metro Police Department (DMPD), Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), engaging one another in nine sporting codes.
These included; soccer, netball, volleyball, cycling, darts, pool and shooting.
Esselen Park was the venue for soccer, netball and pool.
Kingsway Club, in Brakpan, was used for darts, while the John Barrable Hall, in Benoni, hosted indoor volleyball.
Shooting took place at the Rooikraal Shooting Range in Heidelberg and Ebotse Golf Links, State Mines Country Club, Kempton Park and Royal Oak golf courses hosted golfers.
Cyclists did their riding at the Boksburg Stadium.
The games commenced in earnest at the various venues and concluded at around midday, on September 25.
The EMPD shooting team excelled and took gold medals in the individual best woman and man categories, a silver medal in the women’s team category and another gold medal in the men’s team category.
They also took the coveted floating trophy for the best team overall.
The EMPD netball and darts teams received silver medals.
The overall results are: 1 DMPD; 2 TMPD; 3 JMPD.
