Emotions ran high, with threats and heated words, as well as some pushing and shoving, between boxers Ryno “The Lion” Liebenberg and Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen, at a press conference at the SuperSport studios, in Randburg, recently.
Peermont Gaming and VIP operations executive Bob Yearham stepped between the two fighters to calm the situation, during a post conference photo session.
The fighters will clash for the IBO light-heavyweight title in the headline bout of the Stand and Deliver box-and-dine tournament, at Emperors Palace, on March 21.
There was plenty of confident talk from both fighters, confirming promoter Rodney Berman’s hype that this fight would rank among South Africa’s best, so boxing fans can expect a fight of epic proportions for the belt in March.
With plenty of needle between the two fighters at the heated press conference, the war for ownership of the belt has started in earnest, which bodes well for fight fans.
Famous clashes between Gerrie Coetzee and Kallie Knoetze, Pierre Coetzer and Johnny du Plooy and Cassius Baloyi and Phillip Ndou will also be screened at the tournament.
