Fifty-three medals for Germiston Callies

Germiston Callies Harriers runners conquer Comrades Marathon.

Germiston Callies Harriers were well represented in the recent Comrades Marathon.

The club had a total of 74 entrants in the marathon’s 90th year, with 53 finishing the race.

Thulane Magugula was the first of the Callies runners to finish, coming in 23rd overall, in a time of six hours and 10 minutes.

Magagula, Abram Hugo, Zwelithini Vaphi and Sipho Dlamini were the four members of the club who achieved silver medals, finishing the race in under seven and a half hours.

Ten of the clubs runners received Bill Rowan medals (bronze centre circled by a silver ring), for finishing in between seven and a half hours and nine hours.

Seventeen finished within nine to 11 hours and received bronze medals, including four times Comrades Marathon winner Alan Robb, who completed his 42nd race.

The remaining 22 runners finished the race within the 11 to 12 hours time frame and were awarded Vic Clapham medals (copper).

The club is thrilled with the results and thanks everyone involved, including sponsors Bophelong Construction, Road Tech Engineering, Superway Construction, Martini Brothers, Qubekela Projects, Nyoni Nyoni Projects and Infraconsult (Monro Jansen).
