Club Day a huge success

Junior rugby at Elspark Sports Grounds.

The Elsburg Eagles Junior Rugby Club held their Club Day at the Elspark Sports Grounds, on Saturday.

The grounds are situated at the corner of Heidelberg and Egret roads, in Elspark.

The club’s u-6, u-7, u-8, u-10, u-13, u-16 sevens sides and the u-16 teams took to the field against other teams.

The action commenced at 8am with members from the community ready to show their support for the local boys.

All the teams’ results:

  • Elsburg vs Springs (u-6) – Elsburg won 3-0.
  • Elsburg vs Boksburg Uile (u-7) – Elsburg won 5-1.
  • Elsburg vs Boksburg Uile (u-8) – Elsburg lost 0-5.
  • Elsburg vs Boksburg Uile (u-10) – Elsburg won 19-5.
  • Elsburg vs Union Bulldogs (u-13) – draw 17-17.
  • Elsburg vs Bobbies (u-16 sevens) – Elsburg won 17-10.
  • Elsburg vs Bobbies (u-16) – Elsburg won 19-10.

Wian Oosthuizen, Kyle Beyleveld, Ethan Swanepoel, Mark Hechter, Mariques Pretorius, Divan Lotter, Dylan Serfontein, Jonathan Coetzee, Jadon Smiles, Lecaaine Albert, Christopher Stephens, Hannes Alberts and Ruben Erasmus were the try scorers of the day from the local club.

Winning seemed to be the local boys’ order of the day as out of the seven teams the audience witnessed five wins, one loss and a draw.

This tied in well with the South African Rugby team’s win, 46-6, against Samoa.

“The day was a success and from Elsburg Eagles Junior Rugby’s side, thank you to all for participating and joining us for the day,” said the local club’s chairman, Tyron Smuts.

“Another big thank you goes to Mibern Medi-Call paramedics for their wonderful job, we appreciate all they do for us,” said the club’s vice-chairman, Stephan du Toit.

More players are still welcome to join the club.

Practice sessions take place every Monday and Wednesday at 6pm.
