Junkies come out tops

Metcon Junkies Functional Fitness was well represented at the Last Man Standing (LMS) competition.

Metcon Junkies Functional Fitness members, formerly known as CrossFit Germiston, took first place at the Last Man Standing (LMS) South Africa competition.

The competition was held in Pretoria, recently.

“After weeks of vigorous training and preparation, we are proud to announce that we have taken first place,” said the owner and coach at Metcon Junkies Functional Fitness, Jacquard-Ann Mc Cutcheon.

“We won the beginners division as LMS has four divisions; beginners, intermediate, masters and elite.

“This competition offers all athletes, from various levels of experience, an opportunity to compete in a multi-stage, multi-skilled and multi-day event.

“Macdeleen Breydenbach, Gareth Redford, Jarryd Bath and I were the four that took part in the beginners division from our fitness gym.”

The competition consists of four athletes per team; two males and two females who have to share and/or synchronise their tasks and skills for various WODS (workouts) prepared by the organisers.

“There are four WODS that are required to be completed by the teams over the two days.” said Mc Cutcheon.

“The WODS are designed to test strength and skill.”

The beginners division winners were not the only locals at the competition.

The team who participated in the intermediate division consisted of Chantel Victor, a well-known audiologist at Life Roseacres Hospital and Primrose resident, Marina Pinto, a website and graphic designer from Germiston and two men from Alberton, Theuns van der Merwe and Jaco Viljoen.

“The team’s name is ‘Chalk it Up!’ and placed 45th overall out of 150 intermediate teams,” explained Mc Cutcheon.

“They were only five places short of the finals.

“We are proud of everyone who took part in the competition, they showed dedication and perseverance.

“The goal is to enter more teams next year and also to take part in the individual tasks.

”This achievement has proven that the programme and coaching at Metcon Junkies is spot on.”
