Simmer are the champions
Germiston Simmer Rugby Club came out on top of the Senior Grand Challenge league after a gruelling match against Randburg Diggers.
It was a nail-biting Senior Grand Challenge final as Germiston Simmer Rugby Club and Randburg Diggers took to the field at Wits, last Saturday.
The local boys emerged triumphant, winning the match 24-21.
Simmer started strong taking control of the first half and putting 17 points on the scoreboard before the half-time whistle.
These points gave the side the edge they needed heading into the second half, with Randburg Diggers having to play catch-up.
The Diggers furiously attacked the Simmer try-line throughout the second half but it wasn’t enough.
The club was thrilled with the outcome of the match and season.
“What a wonderful season with a wonderful team and a committed management who made things happen when asked,” said coach Maree Bester.
