Soccer players put to the test

Soccer players shake-off the holiday rust at Germiston City Football Club’s trials.

Soccer players flocked to the Germiston City Sports Club for the Germiston City Football Club’s trials over the weekend.

The senior trials were held on Saturday and Sunday.

“We had a great turnout with over 40 players coming to try their luck over the two days,” said the club’s chairman, Peter Oliver.

“There are a lot of new faces mixed with some of our players from the previous season.

“Some of the players even came on both days, but one thing that we noticed and are happy about over the two days is that these youngsters have talent.”

The youngsters had to form teams and play against each other at the trials.

Oliver, who is also the second team coach, added that as much as they are trialling players, they are still on the hunt for junior and senior coaches.

“We are still looking for junior and senior coaches, and we hope to get them before the league starts in March,” he said.

“Although we will only start with the juniors in February, we would also like to begin the process of finding good coaches for the boys.

“Another thing, we are in need of funds to keep the club going and running smoothly.”

Oliver also told the GCN that people who missed the trials but are still interested in joining the club can attend their practice sessions which will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
