Paddlers take on the mixed doubles championships

Local paddlers competed in the Canoe Concepts Mixed Doubles Championships.

Florida Lake Canoe Club hosted the Gauteng Canoe Union Mixed Doubles Championships on the Klip River, between Daleside and Meyerton, last Sunday.

The mixed doubles category (a male/female combination in a K2 kayak) will be one of the racing categories at the World Marathon Championships set to be held in Pietermaritzburg from September 4 to 10.

Canoe Concepts (a supplier of equipment for canoeing/kayaking based in Albertskroon near Emmarentia Dam) is the annual sponsor of the Mixed Doubles Championships where the top Gauteng mixed doubles partnerships are recognised.

Ryan and Vasti Booysen from the Germiston Lake-based Victoria Lake Canoe Club (VLC) enjoyed the event immensely finishing the 30km race in a time of two hours and 22 minutes.
