Elsburg gives great performance in company of new sponsor

New Elsburg Rugby Club sponsor, King of Cars, witnesses the club’s grit in a tough match against Heidelberg Rugby Club.

Elsburg Rugby Club had a scintillating afternoon of rugby and new beginnings last Saturday at the Elspark Sports Complex.

The club was set to put on a great show on the day not just for loyal fans but for their new sponsor, King of Cars, who sent its representative, Wally Johnson, to witness the local club’s rugby skills.

The club hosted Heidelberg Rugby Club in the fifth match of the Kestrel League.

The long-time rivals endured a tough and physical match right from the kick-off whistle.

Within the first 15 minutes, Elsburg drew two penalties from the visiting team, who responded with great offensive play, making it hard for Elsburg to penetrate their defensive line.

When the home team did manage to break through the defensive line of Heidelberg, Boeries Venter scored the first try of the match followed by a successful conversion by Rudie Wessels.

JP Marietta (Elsburg Rugby Club) was quick in catching the ball in numerous line-outs last Saturday when his team faced Heidelberg Rugby Club in the latest Kestrel League fixture at Elspark Sports Complex.

Heidelberg fought back hard and had a chance to visit the try line to get their first five points on the scoreboard.

However, their conversion was unsuccessful.

The teams went into half-time with a score of Elsburg 13 and Heidelberg 5.

After the break, Heidelberg were awarded a penalty, which helped them move three points up on the scoreboard.

As both teams competed for the ball, it fell right into the hands of Danie du Preez, who charged to the try line, taking the score from 13 to 18.

It was a riveting clash between Elsburg Rugby Club and Heidelberg Rugby Club in the Kestrel League last Saturday at the Elspark Sports Complex.
