Germiston trounce Boksburg in Super League match

Germiston City Football Club played host to Boksburg Football Club in their Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League match last Saturday.

After a crushing away defeat, Germiston City Football Club looked to regain some ground in the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League when they faced bottom-of-the-league Boksburg Football Club last Saturday.

In the first two minutes of the match, played at the Germiston City Sports Grounds, Germiston’s Takudswa Jack had two chances at goal, with both being denied by good saves from the Boksburg goalkeeper.

Misses and saves seemed to be the order of the day in the Boksburg goal mouth with Jack, Junior Marino, Chad Nel and Eddie Mokotedi all missing opportunities to score.

The home team’s defence was on point throughout the first half with Boksburg only able to break through in the 28th minute.

The venture into Germiston’s goal mouth was short-lived with Tiyani Baloyi making a good save out of the top right corner.

Germiston put the first point on the scoreboard in the 35th minute with a goal from captain Tunde Rufai.

This goal boosted the team’s confidence and was soon followed by a goal from Jack before the half-time whistle.

Heading into the second half, two goals ahead of their visitors, Germiston wasted no time and scored their third goal of the match with a thunderous shot by Nel.

A burst of speed from Mokotedi down the right field and well-timed cross to Jack secured the home side their fourth goal, minutes later.

Further goals from Mokotedi, Marino, Comfort Molbele and Thabang Moheka secured Germiston a convincing 9-0 victory.

Germiston’s reserve side won their match against Boksburg’s reserves 2-1.

The club’s third team rounded off the day with a 2-0 quarter-final win over CBC Old Boys FC, advancing to the semi-finals of the ELFA Third Division.
